This is a fat biography about the pioneering broadcasting icon, Walter Cronkite, written by Douglas Brinkley, a history professor at Rice University. I read his new book, “American Moonshot,” to celebrate the recent 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and loved it.

I then realized that I had owned his biography of Cronkite for several years so thought I’d read that as well.

Walter Cronkite was born in St. Joseph, Missouri; spent his young childhood in Kansas City; then went to high school in Houston, and two years of college at the University of Texas.
